Twin Lakes - a trip filled with pleasant surprises and nature’s best moments

A drive with friends to a place called Twin Lakes (located in Bridgeport, CA), ~300 miles away from the Bay Area was a pleasant and relaxing venture I was able to get into after a long time. This trip was both enjoyable and filled with few lack luster moments. I had the company of many great friends but missed my wife’s and daughter’s during the entire trip.

We stayed in a cabin named Twin Lakes resort that is a stone’s throw away from the beautiful and serene lake. Twin lakes is a combination of two lakes that are separated by a small patch of rocks. This beautiful lake is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada’s unmistakable and wonderful mountains on all the sides. During our visit we got to see the snow capped mountains which will slowly turn into a snow blanketed region in a month’s time.

I took time to enjoy the scenic views of this lake by running, walking and meditating in the surroundings. I also spent time to listen to the sounds of the waves that the water in the lake made accompanied by the early morning sun rays that I could bask in both the days.

The experience was marvelous and is something that everybody should personally witness & immerse. This was a perfect Thanksgiving trip as I was able to witness nature’s beauty, introspect and thank everybody in my life that made those moments possible. Though Thanksgiving is a culture from the West, it is sometimes agreeable to adapt such occasions rather than just accepting them as holidays to rest from the grind of work life that an IT professionals has to endure during the week (M-F).

There were also a couple of natural hot springs that we visited in the closest proximity of Twin Lakes. One was a hot spring in an area called Buckeye campground followed by another hot spring located in the city of Bodie. Both were completely mesmerizing locations that sparked more curiosity to understand how hot springs work. I enjoyed the conversation with my friends who would each contribute to understanding of how hot springs originate and work. We did some exploration during the hikes and ended up spotting the origins of these hot springs.

Buckeye hot spring was unique by itself as there was a natural cold water spring flow right by the hot spring and it had a clear separation of both hot and cold water springs. It was a “paisa-wasool” moment for all of us as we could get to experience hot and cold water at the same time by switching our feet from one side to another. A picture would do justice to understand this phenomenon. The most interesting of all was a small hot spring located on top of the hill that can be treated as an infinity pool that had the views of snow capped Sierra Nevada mountain ranges.

On day 1, the evening was  filled with fun, dance, songs with a warm campfire that made the day more enjoyable.

While, the trip to Buckeye hot springs was on day 1, we also visited another hot spring in the city of Bodie, that was unique in its own way. This hot spring had 4 different pools that had a temperature of its own. For someone to enter a hot spring from a temperature of 27F and enjoy several different temperatures in the hot spring was amazing. This hot spring had 4 small pockets of water each with different warmness filled in it. I will leave this to one to experience what I tried to describe here.

To end the trip, we drove up to Lake Tahoe to witness another beauty of a natural lake that is always bustling with tourists from across the world. A stop at the Emerald Bay vista point and Eagle head waterfalls was splendid as we all got a great view of how the fresh water from the springs ended up joining the Great Lake Tahoe region.

At all these above listed locations, I took moments to enjoy and immerse myself in the wonders of nature. As a human irrespective of my background, I appreciate and thank the nature for sharing all it’s beauties to everyone. I will cherish this trip for the days to come and will continue to explore nature as always.
